While GPT offers lucrative capabilities automating various aspects of recruitment, its utilisation raises significant security and privacy concerns that both employers and candidates must carefully navigate. 

As an illustration, Italy has raised significant concerns regarding ChatGPT. OpenAI has been notified of suspicions of breaching European Union privacy laws, stemming from an extensive investigation conducted by Italy’s data protection authority over several months into its AI chatbot, ChatGPT.

Employers must exercise caution in how they collect, store, and utilize candidate data to ensure compliance with privacy regulations such as GDPR or CCPA. Also, it’s crucial to be open about how data is used and get permission from candidates. This helps build trust with future employees.

By using GPT-based recruitment tools, the companies accept that the data is transferred outside the EU as the servers are located in the USA. At the same time, organizations can’t be 100% sure that none of their data is used to train the model.

2. Bias Mitigation: Ensuring Fairness and Inclusivity in Decision-Making

Algorithmic bias is a significant issue affecting fairness in hiring. It refers to the recurring and systemic errors in computer systems that lead to unfair outcomes, often favouring specific groups of users while disadvantaging others.

In the study, GPT 3.5 was used for ranking resumes and it ended up favouring names from some demographics more often than others.
