Heidi Hyysalo, People & Talent Manager at HappyOrNot Ltd. I have a master’s certificate in international business and marketing management from Barcelona.

I’m passioned about traveling and learning about new cultures, and my goal has always been to work for an international company. At the beginning of my career, I started working in staffing and recruitment companies, where I developed a strong interest in combining business and modern HR. I have worked for nearly two years at the HappyOrNot Tampere HQ on our people team. I started with recruitment and employer branding but quickly got involved in the HR process development. Lately, I have been working with our global culture and values, employee satisfaction, and performance management processes to enhance and enable our growth and work towards our common goal: to continuously and consistently work towards happier customers and employees every day!

At HappyOrNot, we all have the same goal: to make the world a happier place one smiley at a time. That is why we are all passionate about customer experience. We are a Finnish company and global market leader in measuring customer satisfaction. Our service is used in over 120 countries, and we have employees around the world. We are proud of our employees because, without them, we wouldn’t be where we are now. Even though we are a Finnish company, our culture has been international since the early stages. Currently, we have employees of over 15 different nationalities.

Company Culture Is a Never-Ending Learning Process

Over the last year, we have done some re-investigating into the company culture to improve and plan the future culture of our company.

Because we measure customer happiness, it is important that we measure our employees’ happiness as well. For us, it is important that we have a low hierarchy at the company and that everyone enjoys a relaxed atmosphere and can be who they really are. We have employees in the US, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, France, and Singapore. We relocate our employees from Finland to spread our company values and atmosphere to our offices abroad because our company culture comes from our employees.

Over the last year, we have done some re-investigating into the company culture to improve and plan the future culture of our company. Our employees create our culture. The most important thing in measuring the company culture is to figure out where we are now and where we want to be in the future. For us, it is important to hire the best candidates, and because we value our candidates, our candidate experience is equally important.

Candidate Experience Is the Same as Customer Experience

Screening through modern, flexible, and convenient software is one of the best things from TalentAdore.

Our previous recruiting software was outdated and couldn’t serve its purpose. Now with TalentAdore, we can document our recruitment efforts. The outlook is clear, and the system is easy to use. Screening through modern, flexible, and convenient software is one of the best things from TalentAdore, not to mention the communication with the candidates. Candidate communication was a big challenge for us. The generated and ready-made messages from TalentAdore have improved our level of candidate communication. We can now give more detailed feedback to our candidates, which improves the candidate experience.

I have saved time recruiting with TalentAdore. A single glance and I can see all the recruitment processes that we are running at any given time. It also helps with communicating with hiring managers when all the information is in one place, allowing us to easily follow the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Finding the Right Talents

One bad experience has a bigger impact than one positive experience. The recruitment process is a business card for the company.

TalentAdore’s Talent Community feature is very helpful for us because we have many good candidates but, unfortunately, can’t hire all of them. With the Talent Community, we can keep good candidates in our talent pool and recruit them in the future. TalentAdore gives very informative training for this and other new features, and customer support is always there to help.

To target the right candidates, we need to meet their expectations and be honest and open. We need to have the right content on the right channels and keep in mind that it is also the candidate’s choice to work for us. One bad experience has a bigger impact than one positive experience. The recruitment process is a business card for the company.

Modern Recruiting Is a Game Changer

A traditional job advertisement will not be enough.

I believe that recruiting is going to change and move towards putting the candidate in the center. The candidate will choose whether he or she wants to work for the company, meaning that a traditional job advertisement will not be enough. The recruitment process will need to be personal, effective, and proactive. I believe that employer brand is going to be the key to success, and it starts with the overall employee and candidate experience.
